Ms. Debi Smithey is the founder and proprietor of Broadway's Dance Factory (BDF). She is the choreographer of all BDF dances and she instructs and oversees all classes personally.
Realizing her vision for opening her own studio, she founded BDF 18 years ago after serving 5 years as
Assistant Director and then Director of other well-known studios.
Early in her career, Miss Debi studied Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Clogging at the Canipe School of Dance.
She then attended the NC School of the Arts where she earned a degree in Performing Arts.
While studying at these schools, she received numerous dance pageant and cheerleading titles.
Miss Debi continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received a B.S. in Dance Education/Performance
and a minor in Business Administration, and then went on to earn her M.B.A. at Oklahoma State University.
Her talent and accomplishments have been recognized within the dance industry as she has received numerous choreography and costume awards at major competitions.
In addition, she has been selected to judge and choreograph dance and cheerleading competitions, as well as beauty pageants.
In 2007, Miss Debi has been selected as a judge for the following:
- Sophisticated Productions Competition
- Miss Teen North Carolina
- Miss Dance International
